A Fair Trade certification is the most widely accepted method of ensuring your flowers come from a reputable source. Fair Trade standards revolve around six main ideas: empowerment, fundamental rights at work, livable wages and working conditions, sustainable production, transparency, and an internal management system. Essentially, you’re paying for flowers that are sustainably grown by employees paid a living wage and treated well. To become Fair Trade certified, farms must go through a lengthy application and review process. Because most flower delivery services work with a large network of farmers, it’s unlikely that all of any provider’s floral arrangements will be certified. But most of our top picks offer at least one bouquet option:
Are you looking to revamp and revive your garden this fall, and on the hunt for some luscious fall flowers to fill the harvest season with joy and beauty? If you are in the search for the best annual and perennial fall flowers to add to your garden, these are some of the best options:   Perennial Flowers: Russian Sage New York Daisy Mums Japanese Anemone Balloon Flower Helenium (Sneezeweed) Annual Flowers: Pansies Strawflowers Calibrachoa Flowering Kale Ornamental Peppers What’s the Difference Between Annual and Perennial Flowers? An annual is a plant that lives for just one season. Within one year, an annual will sprout, flower, seed, and then die. Annuals will need to be replanted the next year for the most part. A perennial will live for a few years, but their blooming period is shorter than annuals. Because of this, gardeners will usually plant them in pairs with other perennials that will bloom during a different season so there is always a new flower in bloom. The Best Perennial Flowers: Russian Sage Russian Sage is a bluish lavender colored bloom that grows in full spiky clusters. Not only is it a beautiful filler for any garden, but it […]

While lovely, the FTD bouquet was not actually the most stunning arrangement we saw. Where FTD won us over was with its consistency in all four of our test cities — the company’s bouquets got top scores in Chicago, Seattle, and our two rural communities, which we discovered is hard to do. In Seattle, tiny purple buds accented the roses, and this delivery was the only one that included a little red ribbon around the vase. In our two rural cities, the quality of the roses was striking, although our Wisconsin-based recipient pointed out that each FTD bouquet had a lot more greenery than the pictures on the website suggested — which is good or bad depending on how you feel about greenery.
Typically, a florist will organize flowers by season and holiday. Flowers have various different meanings in different cultures. The holidays and events for which flowers are used vary. Poppies are used to remember fallen soldiers only in Great Britain and the Commonwealth countries. People often prefer flowers that are associated with their ethnic group or country and the cultural meaning of the flower color strongly affects their choice and use. Colors convey different meanings to different groups so that, for example, various colors may be associated with luck or death or love. A flower such as a red rose might communicate love in some cultures, whereas in others, it might be considered indecent or simply puzzling. The vastly divergent attitudes to the color white can also lead to miscommunication and sometimes give offense. White, for example, represents death in many Asian cultures, whereas white is usually a symbol of purity and innocence in countries with a European heritage.

Fresh cut flowers should be easy-peasy. After all, the work of cultivating them has been done for you, so you all you have to do is fill a flower vase with water and toss them in, right? …Not quite. While displaying a Bouq is more low-maintenance than achieving the perfect pH balance of your indoor hydrangeas’ soil, there are some common mistakes you’ll want to avoid in order to give your flowers the best shelf-life – or should we say vase-life? – possible. So without further ado, here are the most common flower display mistakes to steer clear of when you get your Bouq home.   Forgetting to Change the Water We all know fresh cut flowers are a temporary delight. So, will it kill your flowers to let them sit in days-old water? Technically, no – sadly time is already on that task. But to make your Bouq last as long as possible, it’s best to change the water every two days. Letting Your Flowers Go Hungry So we’ve covered hydration and the need for clean water – but your fresh cut flowers need to be fed, too! Most fresh flowers come with one or two packets of cut […]

English Garden style is traditionally an English form of floral design. Stems are placed in a radial fashion and feature abundant use of seasonal flowers and foliages. These designs are often done as low, tufted mounds, or taller vase arrangements that are all-sided (360°), and incorporate garden flowers like roses, gardenia, camellia, delphinium and peonies. The flowers are usually arranged with minimal space between the blooms and foliage is used to accent the flowers as these are the main feature.[clarification needed]
